Born in Bad Axe, MI, to an unemployed, homeless mother and a father who wasn’t in the picture, Gimlet was put into foster care by the SPCA at just two-weeks-old. Eventually put up for adoption, he was warmly welcomed into a loving family home along with two other same-age kittens named Julep and Moonshine.
Those three youngsters would quickly go on to steal America’s heart as The Kitten Posse in a series of internet video shorts that met with high acclaim. Soon came the trappings of fame: inboxes full of fan mail and movie offers, agents and award shows, litter box endorsement deals, personal stylists, awareness campaigns for ringworm. But the constant pressure to entertain the masses was taking its toll. When Julep checked herself into rehab for catnip abuse just before the launch of a world tour, all three kitties decided it would be best to just stay home instead.
Having grown closer and closer over the years, Gimlet and Moonshine decided to officially tie the knot on July 4, 2018. As loud fireworks burst overhead to celebrate America’s birthday, the two newlyweds fled their wedding reception to hide under a nearby bed for the remainder of the evening. Then in early 2019, Moonshine gave birth to a litter of eight kittens. At the age of 32 (in cat years), Gimlet was now the slightly overwhelmed father of extraordinarily cute octuplets.
Gimlet is entering the already-crowded field of Democratic candidates for president in 2020 because there is a stark contrast between his approach to politics and that of the rest of the contenders. Gimlet believes that a true representative of the people must prioritize taking action on the policies on which a wide majority of Americans are in agreement. To that end, he has put together the What America Wants platform.
